Zeric's day

Zeric's birthday started with a 9 am "meeting" in his office.. it was a surprise (mostly).  I sent in a cake with Leila, his fabulous colleague (not pictured here, that's Blair lighting the candles).  It was a hazelnut-almond angel food with chocolate ganache and whipped cream.  It apparently looked like it had traveled, but was demolished nonetheless.

That evening, we greeted Daddy with some homemade pizza and a peanut butter cheesecake.  We had a bunch of presents for him, including a green linen shirt, a ceramic serving bowl made of frangiapani flowers (like the ones he brings home very morning fromt he dog walk), a cookbook holder painted with love by J&E, and a new silver card case with a wayang puppet engraving.

Someone else wanted pizza and cake too!

Around 9, Zeric and I went out for a grown-up dinner to a restaurant just up the street called Shy.  It was truly fine dining, the decor was very simple and beautiful.  It was a bit surreal as the ambience and service was so good that we could have been anywhere.. so we had a moment of pretending that we were in London/DC/New York.  Shy is in a beautiful glass building called Pappillon:

...and then my iPhone battery died, so no pictures of the super impressive dishes there.  The sushi was excellent, Zeric's Japanese clam soup had a whole process around it, my scallops and shrimp tower was very fancy, his pork was.. well, all gone pretty fast.. and the passion fruit souffle was something that needs to be experienced again soon.  Guess we'll just have to go back again soon with cameras ready, and ready to ask for the souffle recipe.

By the way, Zeric's BIG one is next year.
