Once we finally got ourselves packed and the house emptied, we headed to the airport with our TEN pieces of luggage. It was pretty incredible. And, it was 3am. And we were sad to have left Mercy and Blu behind for a few months. We remember it all in a kind of haze now.
We landed in Narita. How do you know you are in Japan? Because you have options..
Off we went to a ryokan (tradition hotel) that Zeric knew, which was a great way to relax in between long flights. They fed us very well. We really enjoyed all of the amazing things they put in front of us, some of which we had eaten before, and some of which were new to us. (Zeric says be careful of the salt fish!) I missed taking a picture of all of the dinner courses because I was so hungry, but here is the first part of breakfast.
In our room, we had a low table and hot tea, which they converted to a sleeping space when we were at dinner. The futons were firm with huge soft feather comforters--so nice!! The best part of our stay at the ryokan was the common bath in the hotel. It was our first time in a Japanese bath, and it was fantastic! We split boys and girls, and washed and rinsed and soaked in water almost too hot! So relaxing!! Just what we needed before getting onto the next very long flight.
