Wat turtle
Wat Prayoon. The kids picked this temple to visit.. and there were turtles everywhere. It was out of the way, apparently a temple that only locals go to. It was lovely.
There was one very big turtle.. he wanted to know why we didn't bring snacks.
There was an island in the middle.. had to get to by walking across a board.
It was tempting to try!

It's list taking the metro.. find the right color boat, jump on, get off. And it's much faster than fighting traffic!

Museum of Siam
Off to another museum! This one took us through the history of Thailand from pre-history through to present. There were wonderful exhibits about early cities and the dawn of Buddhism, and village life.. up to and through the 60s. Hilarious!
Reclining Buddha - Wat Pho
Saturday morning we were off playing tourist again, this time to see the Reclining Buddha. He is more than 40 meters long, lying on his side, getting ready to ascend to nirvana. It was a lovely temple, so peaceful. We decided to light our incense and say prayers as there had been a number of anniversaries that week of people we loved who had passed.
Buddha was impressive..
As you went around, there were lots of altars like this..
You could pray and give alms..

My favorite part was the bottom of Buddha's feet, they were covered in mother-of-pearl inlay.
Just spectacular!
The rest of the complex was very cool too..
At one point, there was chanting that resonated through the whole complex.. we finally found them, all praying together. It was just as it should be.
and when they were done, they had lunch :)
